Gale Mayes Slays Gladys Knight Favorite

If you're a fan of soul music, you might have heard the classic song "You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me" by Gladys Knight and The Pips, celebrating the power of love with a heartfelt melody and powerful vocals. Recently, I had the pleasure of attending a benefit concert for the Musician's Treatment Foundation at the Brooklyn Bowl Nashville, where Gale delivered a soulful rendition of this song that blew me away.

As the warm-up act for Elvis Costello, Gale had big shoes to fill, but she exceeded all expectations with her dynamic stage presence, expressive voice, and engaging personality. Gale started her set with a couple of original songs that showcased her range and versatility. From the jazzy "Love Never Lies" to the funky "Whatcha Gonna Do," Gale proved that she was a force to be reckoned with.

But it was her cover of "You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me" that stole the show. With a simple piano intro and a gradual build-up of the band, Gale set the mood for the song with a warm and tender delivery that conveyed the sincerity and passion of the lyrics. As the chorus kicked in, Gale's voice soared with a mix of power and tenderness that sent chills down my spine. The audience was captivated, and many sang along to the chorus with tears in their eyes.

As a benefit concert for the Musician's Treatment Foundation, the event also raised awareness and funds for a worthy cause that provides medical and financial assistance to musicians in need. Founded by Dr. Chadwick Smith, the foundation aims to help musicians who don't have health insurance or access to affordable healthcare, which is a common challenge in the music industry. By supporting the foundation, attendees like me could enjoy a great show while making a positive impact on the lives of others.
