Lake Street Dive Covers Linger

My First Time at the Ryman: Lake Street Dive Covers "Linger"

As a music lover, I had heard of the Ryman Auditorium long before I visited Nashville, Tennessee, but nothing could prepare me for the history of this legendary venue. Known as the "Mother Church of Country Music," the Ryman has hosted countless iconic performances and continues to be a sought-after stage for artists of all genres. Recently, I scored a resale ticket the afternoon of the performance so went to see Lake Street Dive at the Ryman, and it was a night to remember.

I was new to Lake Street Dive but remembered and really enjoy "Good Kisser". So, Lake Street Dive is an American band that combines elements of jazz, soul, and pop into a unique sound that's both catchy and sophisticated. With lead singer Rachael Price's powerhouse vocals and the band's tight musicianship, Lake Street Dive has earned a dedicated following and critical acclaim over the years. I feel fortunate to have stumbled upon them because the concert energy was electric. They had sold out two nights in Nashville. I was indeed lucky to be there.

At the Ryman, Lake Street Dive covered "Linger" by The Cranberries, a haunting ballad that showcases Rachael Price's range and emotional depth. The arrangement was stripped-down and intimate, with the band members gathered around a single microphone and playing acoustic instruments. The harmonies and dynamics were spot-on, and the audience was captivated from the first note. I noticed the performance live was better than the album version.

What impressed me the most was the way Lake Street Dive made the song their own while honoring the original. The Cranberries' version of "Linger" is known for its ethereal quality and dreamlike lyrics, while Lake Street Dive's version emphasized the heartbreak and vulnerability of the lyrics with a soulful twist. It was a perfect match for the Ryman's warm acoustics and rich atmosphere.

Speaking of the Ryman, I have to say that the venue exceeded my expectations in every way. From the moment I stepped inside, I was transported to another era, with its wooden pews, stained-glass windows, and ornate architecture. The Ryman's history as the original home of the Grand Ole Opry and a place where legends like Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and Elvis Presley have performed was palpable, and I felt honored to be there.

The staff at the Ryman also deserves a shoutout for their professionalism and hospitality. From the security personnel to the ushers to the bartenders, everyone was friendly and helpful, making sure that I had a great experience. The sound quality was superb, and the lighting and visual effects added to the mood of each song.

In conclusion, Lake Street Dive's cover of "Linger" at the Ryman Auditorium was a magical moment that showcased the band's talent and the venue's beauty. It was my first time at the Ryman, but I know it won't be my last. If you ever have the chance to see a show at the Ryman or listen to Lake Street Dive, don't hesitate. You won't regret it.
